Samanar Hills (Samanar Padukai)
The engravings in the mountain are of the Tamil Jains who lived there 2000 years ago and the engravings themselves are said to be that old. It is very clear that the engravings were of beings of a higher state of consciousness or enlightened beings, who were obviously part of the jaina religious sect. This mountain in the village is very peaceful with only a couple of people in sight and the view from the mountain is worth every step up the steep hill. It is an ideal spot for meditation because some of the Tamil Jains who lived on the mountains 2000 years ago were enlightened beings. In total there are five sculpted figures on top of the hill, and five more engravings on the sides of hill that has to be walked without climbing up the hill. Exploring the small mountain is an unexpected adventure with its goats and small caves, a home to the local bats.
